What program are you in? Look at the academic regulations for your program in the Undergrad Calendar. You can find it at http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /regis...lications.html.

no lol
but since you say the course is compulsory, you'll have to keep taking that course until you pass to be able to move on to 2nd year..or with some programs you can still move on into 2nd year but you'd need to take the course you failed while you're in 2nd year

and the only way you'd be kicked out is if your overall average is really low (or academic dishonesty, other crimes etc) ..but even then, since you're in first year and have only finished one semester, if you're average from last semester was below 3.0 (or 3.5 im not 100% sure) then you'd be on probation first before being kicked out.

You won't be kicked out of Mac if you fail a required course, but take Commerce as an example:

If you fail a required Business 1 course, you will not be accepted into Commerce 2. You will have to transfer to another program.

That's why I'm asking what program.

I have to again point you to the Academic Regulations for your program. I just took a quick scan through and found the answer in about 30 seconds. Check it out.
