Ticket
Hi,
I received a ticket last night for an open container. I feel horrible worried for my future. I know we made a mistake, is there any point of even taking it to court? can i reduce the fine somehow? how will this affect my future?

It should be no big deal, just hope no potential employers do a background check on you and you should be just dandy.

im fairly certain tickets are not visible on background checks because its not a "criminal" offense, more of civil offense, hence the ticket

It probably won't show up on any background checks since it's not a criminal offense like the above poster mentioned, but obviously it's recorded somewhere. If someone were to search hard enough, and I wouldn't be surprised if potential employers did, they would be able to find it.

Just for clarification...what kind of a ticket do you get for an open container?

You can fight any ticket in court. Thus giving you the opportunity to try and reduce the fine. If you take it to court you can explain to them you are a student, made a silly mistake and trying to better yourself. Often they will reduce the fine or change the ticket to a similar offence of a lesser degree which comes with a lower fine.

I wonder if you'll have to check 'yes' to the 'have you ever been convicted of an offense....' question. You may have screwed yourself over big, bro!
At least it wasn't a DUI!

what do you mean what kind of ticket?
thanks for information guys. the problem is that it wasn't even my fault. I was with some other guys and that other guy had the bottle. Somehow the officer singled me out. I just gave in because I didn't want any more trouble.

I have two of them...they suck but it's just something you're gonna have to deal with and pay for having open alcohol. As stated above, it's the equivalent of a parking ticket and not on criminal record
