Tips-Physics 1B03
Hi, I am taking this course next semester and I would love to hear some of your study strategies and techniques you used to do well in this course.I have read most of the reviews about this course and what were somethings that really worked for the midterms and final exams? For example, did you do all the practice problems in the text book, did you make cue cards to remember the theories...etc.

Thanks

Do CAPA in groups and make sure you understand how to get the answer. Do as many practice problems as possible when studying for the midterms and exams and make sure you understand the concepts because there will be questions on theories. Also, go over your midterms to see what you got wrong and how to get the answer when studying for the exam.

I found that doing the practice problems, as well as reading the textbook before class really helped. If I would have kept that up, I probably would have gotten a higher mark ^^

if you have to ask it means you're not ready for this course.

just drop it and give someone who will do well in it the seat

Before the exam make sure you know how to do every CAPA question and every question on both of the midterms. On our exam, some of the questions were taken exactly from the midterms. And keep up with the material by doing the practice problems in the textbook.

I agree with the CAPA questions, I ended up doing every single one of them again the day before the exam (took me like 6 hours!) but it really helped.

yeah just do the CAPAs and the suggested problems and you're good

but make sure you don't refer to your notes for every problem

Practice problems are key as are CAPA. Another tip is to actually do the readings before lectures. That way you should be able to get perfect on all of iClicker quizzes.
With physics, you can never do too many problems.

That's really great advice, there. I also personally believe that I should know every great strategy on how to excel at a course I haven't started before even hearing the professor outline how it's going to be run that term.

wut. just wait to hear how the course is run, then start making a strategy or whatever.

Yes, but the poster is being proactive in that they're looking to determine strategies with other people's advice before the course begins.

You advise strategies and tips on how to excel, but ones created by the student themselves which is much less beneficial than getting some advice on how to do well from others with prior experience. Only relying your own strategies is counterproductive to the original goal of determining a method to do as well as possible.

Your last point contradicts your first, which was that students who want advice on how to do well in a course they haven't begun should just drop out. How are they supposed to have strategies for a course they aren't in?

Flawless.

What's wrong with using MacInsiders as a resource to do well in a course?
Also, just because someone may not perform as well as someone else, that doesn't mean that they should let someone else take it. Perhaps, they want to learn the course - and not only care about marks. Learning and marks are not one and the same, you know.

The people here are experts on Physics 1B03 - more so than the poster because they have more experience. Personally, I clicked onto this page for the same reason because I am taking the course and decided to use this site as a resource - which is the point of this site, is it not? A resource?
