Too Much Philosophy?
Hey fellow Mcmaster-ites! (or whatever we are called)

I am a level one student, looking to do a double honors in Political Science and Philosophy.

My question is, can you take too many philosophy courses in a philosophy degree?

I am preparing to enroll in 4 of the 5 level one philosophy courses, however I do not want this to subtract from any maximum allowable philosophy courses for my degree (because there are so many more upper year courses I would rather take).

Any thoughts?

I'm not quite sure what you mean...

The only limit really in place is that you can't take more than 48 units of first year courses. (I'm pretty sure it's 48

Otherwise, you should be following the degree requirements, right? o_O

For example, for a Poli Sci degree, no more than 60 units can be from poli sci courses, 60 units MUST be from other departments. Luckily, there is only one 1st level poli sci course, so that leaves lots of room for upper year poli sci.

However, philosophy does not show such requirements as far as I can see. So I want to take 12 units in this first year, yet still have unlimitied options 2nd level and up. But, if there is a 60 unit cap (or whatever it may be), I dont want to waste my cap space on level 1 courses (at least not 12 units), because there are higher level courses I would rather take.

I used to be in combined honours philosophy and there aren't any restrictions for people doing the combined honours.

Usually it will say "The maximum (Subject) courses to be taken is (#) units" however this is only for courses that are level 2 and up.

So take as many first year philosophies as you want

Have you taken a look at these links?

http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /CALEN...nt/pg2069.html

This one tells you the requirements for the Philosophy.

"" Admission

Completion of any Level I program and a Cumulative Average of at least 6.0 and an average of at least 7.0 in six units of Level I Philosophy or, if no such course was taken, in six units of work acceptable to the Department of Philosophy. ""

http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /CALEN...nt/pg1716.html

Admission

Completion of any Level I program with a Cumulative Average of at least 6.0 including a grade of at least B- in POL SCI 1G06. Satisfaction of the admission requirements for the Honours program in the other subject.

So from what I understand, you need to complete year 1 of something regardless, with a bare minimum of 6 units in philosophy, and you need to take poli sci 1g06.

Kinda confusing, lol...
