Hey guys, I'm applying to teachers college on TEAS, and I'm required to submit a request for a transcript. TEAS does everything, but I need to provide them with a student number. Do I provide them with my original 7 digit student number, my new 9 digit student number, or my mac id? Thanks.

Fairly sure you would provide the 9 digit student number b/c if im not mistaken, 9 digits is the normal among other universities... bank also requires a 9 digit number if you pay your tuition from there. MacId I think is just for mcmaster use only, useless for anyone outside mcmaster.

Not all other universities have 9 digits - UofT actually had to switch to 10 digits about four years ago and there might be a few other exceptions. Also, what would applicants from Mac have done in previous years (before the student number switch) if a 9-digit number was required? The simple fact that it is 9 digits is not really the point here. Banks are a totally separate issue since they use your student number as an account number, so it must have a certain number of digits.

Your MacID is not a number, so if they are asking for a number, this obviously isn't it.

As for which of your student numbers to use, go with whichever is your current number. I'm not sure of the details regarding the switch but it sounds like the one that is actively used now is the 9-digit number and the 7-digit number is not actually in use anymore, so the 9-digit number would be your student number.
