TRAVEL, VOLUNTEER and LEARN DURING READING WEEK!
We are very EXCITED to begin recruiting for our 2011 Mac Serve Reading Week program!

The trips take place during Reading Week and the goals are to get students LEARNING through SERVICE.

Applications are now available at studentsuccess.mcmast er.ca
Applications close Monday November 1st at 4pm.

Information Sessions:
Wednesday October 13
Tuesday October 19
Monday October 25
All Information Sessions will take place at 6:30pm in the Student Success Centre (GH110)

***TRIP PROFILES***
Mexico (Development and Social Action)
Participants will travel to Cuernavaca, Mexico where they will work and reside with our longstanding partner- the Cuernavaca Centre for Intercultural Dialogue on Development. Work projects vary, but often involve build/construction projects in local settlements. In addition to work projects, the week contains workshops and presentations from local leaders, artisans, activists and professors.
Cost: $1450

New Orleans (Politics of Disaster Relief)
Participants will travel to New Orleans to explore the impact of Hurricane Katrina and more recently, the BP oil spill. Working with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, participants will explore how help is organized during disasters and the long-term social, economic and cultural repercussions of such events.
Cost: $700

Hamilton (Youth Poverty)
Participants will gain a new perspective on Hamilton as they explore it through the lens of youth poverty. Working with organizations such as the Living Rock and Good Shepherd, students will examine youth poverty from multiple perspectives. Students who participate in this experience do not look at Hamilton, or themselves, in the same way.
Cost: $200

Vancouver (Food Security)
Participants will work with various organizations throughout Vancouver to explore food systems and why some people have no access to food while others waste so much. One agency that we have worked with for many years is QUEST Outreach which is a food re-distribution organization who believes 'we don't have a hunger problem, we have a food distribution problem.'
Cost: $1300
