unassigned list
Hi Brendan
We are writing in order to update you on the residence application and assignment process. While Residence Admissions has begun to make room assignments for first year students, we do not yet have an assignment ready for you. Don’t worry! You are guaranteed a residence space!

Spaces become available throughout the summer as Residence Admissions receives cancellations from students. Once a space becomes available, we will contact you by email to let you know you have been allocated a residence space.

Why haven’t I been assigned a room yet?

Our allocation process relies on a lottery system that determines the order in which we assign all students who met the application and deposit deadlines. Due to the overwhelming demand for residence spaces, we are often over-subscribed; thus, a small group of students end up on an “unassigned list” and must wait a little longer to receive their room assignment. Even so, you are guaranteed and you will be assigned as soon as a space becomes available.

I got this email from Mcmaster instead of a room assignment. Anyone else get the same email, or had the same experience before?

While I haven't gotten that email ever, you shouldn't worry about getting a residence spot. Like the email says, you are guaranteed residence, so they will make sure you have a spot. You just have to wait a bit longer than others unfortunately.

Yeah I wouldn't worry about it. They made sure to note that you will for sure get a spot, you'll just have to wait longer.

I guess you got a really, really low lottery pick on the guaranteed list.

Once they have a room for you they'll let you know.

If the number of students who get their confirmation letter from Mac after final grades are submitted is larger than the original number of bedspaces Mac will need to convert some residences rooms into triples again.

For the double cohort years and the three years following most residences had triple rooms. Last year they cut the number of those rooms considerably, so only a few residences (Whidden being one) had a large number of bunk and loft triples.
