Wait list!
To shorten a complicated story, my housing plans fell through so i ended up applying to residence after the deadline. Sucks big time, but I was given a decent number on the wait list.

SO here's what I'm wondering. I know it's really just based on whoever declines their spot, but has it been uncommon for people on the wait list to get a spot?

Finally a question I can truly answer, lol.

I applied 1 DAY late to residence last year (didn't know I had to apply before selecting the school...) and I ended up on the waiting list. I had a really crappy spot (around 260), and I never got off.

I did watch my number decrease over time though, and I'd say if you're in the top 100 you have a really high chance of getting off the waiting list. If you're in the top 200 to 100, you just have 'a chance', and if you're in position 200 or above... just start looking for off-campus housing.

I ended up in off-campus housing with a bunch of second year health scis, life scis and an engineer. It wasn't that bad in the end. I probably got more studying done and better grades since everyone in the house pretty much kept to themselves.

Best of luck in gettng a spot, ans I can see it's your preferance, but I know there's tons of people with spots in really affordable student housing - it won't be a problem finding that! I can assure you!

Thanks guys! i was just worried because theres fewer upper year spots...

Ownaginatios - GAH! I applied one day late as well, but luckily i made it into the top 100. Glad it worked out for you, having such a quiet house! Thanks for all the info.

micadjems - I would prefer residence but i know housing can def. be cheaper. Apparently housing surrounding Mac is so over saturated that rooms always go unrented. So, thanks! I guess I'm not as worried anymore. If i dont end up getting rez, then maybe landlords will start offering 8 month leases just to fill the spots... wishful thinking!

I think I'll wait it out, but I'm gonna keep a look out for some nearby housing.

Ah the benefits of being on the IRC. I've never had to worry about that. Honestly though, I decided to live off campus in second year and my house was actually closer to my classes than if I had lived in residence that year.

Definitely!! Landlords (like myself! hint hint) are already offering shorter-than-12-month leases.

The double cohort left in 08, so now theres way more housing than students!! You'll have no problem, and you'll still meet tons of people!

The double cohort is the result of when they eliminated OAC in 2003, so there were essentially two graduating classes (the grade 12s and the OACs). This meant there were double as many students going to university starting in the fall of 2003.

Hope that helps

Some double cohorts were still here in '09.

If anyone does need off campus housing I have a room for rent that I am subletting. The room is available now but can be a September to May1st lease. (lease is negotiable). $400/month. Large spacious room on the lower level with a fireplace. House is shared with 7 others (co-ed).

Yes, the deadline for upper year applications for residence has passed. That's what surena is asking about, not the residence applications for prospective students.

Ok thats good...not that it concerns me but I know a few prospectives who'd be pissed if they missed the deadline.
