upgraded marks- graduate school
Does anyone know whether graduate schools (pharmacy) care about upgradged course marks??

Especially pharmacy at U of T or Waterloo??
Do they calculate both before and after grades when calculating the GPA? or just the last one? or doesn't like the upgrades?

Would it be better to keep a bad mark or take it again and get a better mark??

if you look at uoft pharm's FAQs they have an answer to this question.

it actually seems frowned upon at uoft to retake a course UNLESS you've failed it, in which case it is fine to retake it.

they say something along the lines of "it is not encouraged to..."

not sure about waterloo

for uoft both grades would be used in the calculation of your GPA

Your best bet is to ask each of the schools directly.

thank you for the fast reply
I hear that U of T changed its entrance requirements this year.
(about entering after 2nd year) is it affective starting this year? or next year?

its for next year (2011) they've added an additional chemistry requirement (physical chemistry) - i beleive the mcmaster equivalent is chem bio 2p03 which you can take if you've taken chem 1aa3

also they require the pcat in addition to an interview (which, i think, was just implicated this year)

Oh! there's interview component for U of T now?
i thought it was only waterloo that requires the interview.

What do you think about going to pharmacy after 2nd? or after any other years?
I don't know what to expect from pharmacy or other graduate schools

if you can get in after 2nd year that's awesome! you need a low 80 cumulative GPA to be competitive and a PCAT score somewhere around there as well.

if you plan on going in after 2nd, you should plan to write the pcat in the summer of your 1st year, ideally but i think there are january sittings as well.

uoft has now implicated the multiple mini interviews (MMI), which play a role in admission as well.

Grad schools = super competitive, since a lot of students seem to be applying because they don't know what they want to do for their careers/jobs.

For the programs I was accepted into, 300-400 apply and 20-30 are given offers (one average; some departments these numbers were less). This are MA programs and not MSc, so I'm not sure if the numbers are the same or not.

One of my friend from Mac life sci got into UT pharmacy last year.

She finished 2 years of study, volunteered at a local pharmacy during summer in Toronto, and got in with a cGPA of 84% ish I think.
The average entrance grade for UT pharmacy last year was 83%.
