Graduate school opportunities for B.Sc in Life Sciences?
I was wondering what graduate school opportunities are available for individuals who complete a B.Sc in Life Sciences, as opposed to someone who has a B.Sc in Biology, or Biochemistry. Also will it be highly competitive?

It depends on what you specialize in. Graduate programs require some sort of knowledge of a certain field.

So, I assume you are mostly taking Bio and Psych courses, yes? If you wanted to do a Masters in Biochem or Physics for example you would need to take those courses to demonstrate your knowledge of that subject area.

If you plan on doing a Masters in Biology, you should try to be in honours biology. That way you can do a thesis in your field, which will be crucial for finding a Masters supervisor if you don't already have research experience.

Also you should probably aim for decent marks. I think most schools want at least a B average.

The name of your degree is only a small part of the big picture.

Having a degree in Life Science is just as good as someone with a degree in Biology for example, as long as you have equivalent or competitive courses and experiences. Your thesis will matter as well.

The degree is just paper, it's the experience behind that paper that counts.

H. Bio & H. Life Sci are fairly similar programs except that life sci has a broader range of courses (bio, psych, enviro sci).

Sure, you can still do a thesis in life science; however, many life sci students have had issues with getting into courses due to enrollment caps and end up taking environmental science and other non-bio courses. Most biology students are guaranteed a spot in sought after courses like Bio 3U03/3UU3 as they are required courses. In some cases, thesis and graduate school profs may look unfavourably if you haven't taken critical courses.
