Urgent! 2nd year courses question ...
I am a transfer student admitted to Engineering 1, Do I have to be registered in software engineering to take the following courses(although the undergraduate calendar doesn't say so):

SFWR ENG 2C03
SFWR ENG 2DM3
SFWR ENG 2S03
SFWR ENG 2MX3

because SOLAR keeps telling me that I don't have the academic requisites for them although I have MATH 1ZZ5 and Engineer 1D04 (which are their prerequisites) transferred.

P.S.: SOLAR let me register for MATH 2Z03 (which has MATH 1ZZ5 as a prerequisite)

plz help!

"All Software Engineering courses are open to students registered in a Software Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering program, subject to prerequisite requirements. Prior permission of the Department is necessary for other students."

It's also a prerequisite to be in Software Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering. You'll have to contact the Department to ask them if you can take the courses.

oh that's bad. so currently I only have 15 units for first year. is that ok? I know that that doesn't make me a full time student, but is it ok to only have 15 units the whole year?

Uh, you'll have a hell of a lot of work to catch up on. You can only take 12 units in summer, unless you overload but you have to meet certain requirements for that. Which means you'll be down 3 units. If you are in engineering it's even worse because I think you need to take 37 units a year? So yeah, look for electives to take in the mean time. If you are allowed to take the software engineering courses then you can just switch.

By the way, which program are you in? 15 units doesn't sound like you have all the required courses you need to take in first year.

Yea, you should definitely have a bunch more classes to take. You really want to be as close to 30 units as possible. Or 37/whatever it is in the case of engineering.

I'm a transfer student and all of Engineering level 1 courses have been transferred for me (that is I don't have to take them) except 3 courses. so I took 2 math courses from year 2 , which is now= 15 units. I won't be behind or anything because I've already have the courses done. problem is I'll be wasting alot of time in first year and very packed in second year :S ... I just wanted to take some of second year's load in first year :(

In that case, contact the engineering faculty tomorrow and explain to them your situation. They will be able to advise you from there.

Oh ok. Yeah, look into the second year courses that you have to take. If those Software Engineering courses are the ones you have to take in second year. Explain it to the Engineering Department and see if they have enough compassion to let you in. Say something like you are very interested in the program and are planning to apply to it for second year. Also about your circumstances, how you have transfer credits and would like to study in advance (there's a word for that on the tip of my tongue but I cannot seem to grasp it). Also, if you've had good grades in the past that would be good to mention especially to give support to studying in advance. Also mention some stuff to show that you are serious.
