Virtual Section
Has anyone ever taken a course that had a virtual section? I'm thinking of taking ECON 1BB3 this fall, and there's a virtual section. Does anyone know how virtual classes work?

Thanks

I took Econ 1BB3 in first year, and I'm assuming the 'virtual section' you're referring to are online APLIA quizzes. They are basically quizzes you do online; really easy ones at that.

If that's not what you mean, it could be that they have started podcasting classes, which might make them 'virtual'. i.e. you don't actually go to class and just listen to the lectures online.

I'm hoping that one of those two explanations answers your question!

There was a virtual core this past year as well. It's essentially the exact same as the other cores, you just get podcasts of the lectures instead of having a scheduled lecture. Mind you, the prof did podcasts for the other lectures as well, and all the assignments are done online through Aplia, so there really wasn't much difference.

One thing you might consider is how not having an actual class to attend will affect you. I know a person who was in the virtual core, and they didn't do as well in the course as they would have otherwise, because they tended to forget they were even taking the class.

Overall though, what core you sign up for doesn't matter too much. No one's taking attendance, so you can attend any lectures you like, as long as you don't have conflicts.
