Recently, my lcd burnt out on my laptop (I think). It's really dark, but I can still see shit in the background if I look really hard.

So I bought a VGA cable to hook it up to a monitor/TV.

Now, just turning on my laptop regularly, it loads up just fine. It gets to my desktop and everything. It's just really hard to see.

If I try to hook up my laptop to a monitor using the VGA cable, I start it up... it loads the toshiba screen, it loads the microsoft corporation page (with the green loading bars), and once that's done.. it goes black for a sec, then the monitor says "No signal" then it goes black.

I connected the VGA cable I just bought from my monitor to my desktop (so just replaced the old cable), and it still worked. So we don't think it's the cable that's faulty.

It just seems to be a problem of connecting the laptop to a monitor. O_O

so your screen is busted and you're hooking your laptop up to another monitor?
and you decided not to say this before?
idiot.

Here's one solution, since you are not good with computer I doubt you are telling the laptop to output to your other monitor:
Once the screen goes black and it says no signal, press Fn+F5 twice. if your laptop is the same as mine, it should work.
Otherwise it's Fn key + one of the F# keys.

Try to turn up the brightness then...

If that doesn't work, then the LCD's light is probably dead. If so, that shouldn't be very expensive to replace (compared to if you broke the LCD itself).

Depends on what kinds of outputs you have available from your laptop.

You need an 8 mm jack to RCA adapter. They're really cheap (Like around 5 dollars). Every laptop ever supports this.

You can get them pretty much anywhere that sells wires and crap.

You can go to The Source and buy an 8mm audio jack adaptor cable and plug it into your TV or exteral speakers, just ask one of the staff to help you find the cable you need

Go to ur local computer parts store and buy a cable there... A standard VGA Cable at CanadaComputers is not more than 3-5$. If you have and HDMI output on ur Laptop and on ur Monitor, you can buy that, as HDMI carries both Audio+Video. Otherwise, for an audio cable, go to a store like CanadaComputers, and they'll hook u up. The Soruce, BestBuy, FutureShop, CircuitCite charge you 20x more for a similar product.
