Volunteers fluent in South Asian Languages Required for Health Research Study
The RICH LEGACY (Research in International Cardiovascular Health -Lifestyles, Environments and Genetic Attributes in Children and Youth) studyis an international collaboration to evaluate characteristics of individuals, families, schoolsand communities associated with obesity and risk factors for heart disease(blood pressure, glucose and lipids) in 7-8 and 14-15 year old Indianchildren.
This requires a commitment of at least 4 hours/week and a minimum of 80hrs for completion. After successful completion, a certificate verifying volunteer/clinical/researchhours will be provided.
Starting date: As soon as possible
Number of Positions: 4
Job Description:
The successful applicant will be expected to contribute tothe research effort in a number of ways. This will include, but is not limitedto:
● Assistingstaff with data collection from participants in a clinical setting (schools andclinic site inBrampton/Peel Region)
● Telephone schedulingof clinic assessments
● Building andmaintaining positive relations with participants
● Working withother research team members
● Administrativeand data entry tasks associated with the study
Skills required:
● Some universityeducation in allied health field or health sciences
● Experience dealing with people,with emphasis on communication skills, ability to establish rapport, ability toassess a situation and respond accordingly
· Preference will be given to candidates who can speak and understand South Asian languages (Punjabi,Urdu, Hindi)
● Well organized, attention-to-detail, and ability to handle manytasks concurrently
● Professional and mature, inworking with participants and handling confidential and sensitive information
● Experience ina research setting is an asset, however, training will be provided
● The ability towork with other members of the team

Population Health ResearchInstitute (Hamilton Health Sciences)
Travel to Brampton will berequired
