VOROS or PENNER
voros teaching soc sci 2O03
penner teaching soc sci 2p03
in terms of teaching styles, marking easiness, and test styles, who do you recommend?
thank you!

I don't think you could go wrong with either one as far as teaching style goes. Most people make this decision based on the fact that Voros is 50 % midterm, 50% final whereas Penner will likely have assignments as well. If you like 80-100 memorization question multiple choice exams then go with Voros. I didn't find her exams difficult at all. If you prefer to write a bit chose Penner just talk to him about the expectations. I've done well with both of these profs in the past but I think 2p03 is probably the more interesting class cause its relatable but i'd choose Voros cause she podcasts which is huge for studying.

I was wondering how you know that Penner will be teaching 2P03? Because I emailed the faculty about a month ago and they said as far as they knew Voros would be teaching it :S

I had both and lecture wise penner is more energetic and more engaging as a prof. But as far as testing Penner makes you do reflections which when i took the course last year found most people did around 70s and low 80s. You rarely got 90s. And his exam was super fair, if you studied you did well it was the reflections which brought you down. Voros usually podcasts her lectures so you dont even have to go you can just listen to them before the midterm. but unless you know the material you will be having trouble cause most of her questions are true or false. hope that helps!

Nope. Still isn't listed.
What makes it so hard on the Reflections that students can't get above 70 - 80% with Penner?
Edit: In response to lifesci09's post.

I am in the same dilemma...I don't know if there are any other 4th years on here but because I am applying for grad school I fear that the 50% exam/midterm may possibly be kind of gambling...there really isn't a way to come back from a mid term and I have never had Voros before so can anyone comment on the level of difficulty of the exams? I am willing to watch the podcasts 5 times each if it helps...I will put in the work...I just tend to be a better essay writer...but given my writing intensive seminars, I would like a little change in the format of the course...can anyone provide any help? Thanks in advance

the markers were lame and it was difficult to get your reflection re-marked. Like he wanted you to go in depth and reflect but I personally felt no matter how hard I tried or how deep I went it was not enough and I am a pretty good writer.

It is scary to write a midterm worth 50% but you will study for it knowing its worth that much and her questions are fair. If you listened to podcasts and focused on major themes and ideas which she repeats numerous times youll be fine.

For anyone who's still wondering, I e-mailed Voros, and she said that she'll be teaching SOCSCI2P03 2nd Term.

I have take SOC SCI 2R03, 2O03, and 2Q03 with professor Voros and I can't wait to take 2P03 with her. I was worried the first time I took her class about having two exams worth 50% each, but as long as you take good notes, listen to the pod casts, and prepare for her tests by studying hard you will get a good mark. Her test are fair and straight forward.
