Hi everyone!
My name is Sebastian Miller and I’m a fourth year honours history major. I want to be elected to represent you this year as an SRA member for the faculty of Humanities.
The SRA is the elected body of undergraduate students from each faculty that acts as the governing force behind the McMaster Students Union. The MSU provides a wide range of services that assist and enrich your university experience. For instance, the MSU recently brokered a deal which allows all McMaster students free admission to all of Hamilton’s art galleries and museums.
I have extensive leadership experience as I have twice been a Welcome Week Rep and am actively involved in the Maroons and a number of other on and off campus initiatives.
But why should you vote for me?
Recently the MSU has shown a lack of accountability towards the students they represent. Initiatives have gone forward without really taking into account if they were in the best interest for students. This has to change. The MSU’s budget comes from your student fees and if elected I will work to ensure that the budget is allocated effectively and responsibly.
I promise to work tirelessly to properly represent the students of the faculty of humanities at McMaster.
My platform centers around making the MSU more accessible and accountable to the students.
- To do this I plan to propose a bi-weekly or monthly update be made available to the students so that that they can stay informed on what the MSU is doing.
- I also plan to make the SRA and the MSU more accountable to the students. I promise to work to ensure that initiatives undertaken by the MSU are not only in the best interest of students, but work to enrich their experience at McMaster.
- I promise to actively consult all avenues of student voice utilized by Humanities students such as the MHS and MacInsiders to ensure that humanities students issues are made known to the SRA and the MSU.
- I’ll work to strengthen the bonds with lobbying groups such as the Ontario Undergraduate Students Alliance (OUSA) and the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA). These groups actively lobby the government concerning student issues and McMasters continued involvement with them is pivotal. Their websites can be found at
www.ousa.on.ca and
www.casa.ca .
- I also intend on working closely with and promoting MacGreen to ensure that the McMaster campus continues to actively work towards becoming more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Remember to come out and vote for Sebastian Miller for SRA Humanities on October 22 in Mills Library.
