I just remembered that you also have the alternative of bringing a bike/roller skates/skateboards/etc.

Nah, I've dozed off in Bio plenty of times (try every lecture). Dr. Wilson didn't say anything, Dr. K told me that I could catch up on my sleep during Reading Week. *shrug*

I find that when I don't sit in the front row or the first 3 I spend most of class watching people on their computers, looking at their hair, watching them text, or just generally people watching. So it's definitely a focus thing for me.

Just power-walk to class. You'll get there earlier, get your seat of choice, and burn some calories along the way

I also think people are freaking out a bit too much. If it's a small class/seminar/tutorial, explain to whoever is in charge that you may be 1-2 mins late because you have a ways to walk. Obviously don't use that as an excuse to show up late all the time, you should still try your best to be punctual, but that gives that person a heads up so they know not to reprimand you.
no ones going to set you on fire

Honestly, if the title was "Waking up for class without being late" I'd be more interested
