University isn't supposed to be easy. One of the biggest challenges is time management. I know that sometimes profs just pile it on, but that's life.

I work 50+ hours a week and go to school full time. You'll survive without 2 reading weeks.

Pressure is the best motivator! We don't need another reading week

A full course load? What program are you in? I am very impressed Michelle. I have a lot I am doing too but you are a role model.

Pressure is the best but when you exhaust yourself to get it done to the point where it harms you I got to question how good it really is.

Yes it is a great motivator. But you have to ask yourself and so does the university. Is it best for our education that we are scrambling to learn as many things as possible and cramming or should we be taking fewer classes (say just 4 a term) and have time to learn the material more effectively.
It all comes down to what is better for the future. Does it serve anyone better by the university making us learn things under unideal conditions by piling on too many assignments/test/projects all at once rather than being given the time to effectively learn the material presented too us.

It's just a lesson in reality; When you get out in the real word with real non-negotiable deadlines, asking your boss for a week off because you are overwhelmed with work will get you that week (and many more) off, because you'll be fired. Time management is what you need to actively learn, and that helps you get through University and post-uni life successfully.

I don't know exactly.. I mean, it's the first I've heard of such a thing.
My sister went to school in Peterborough (at Fleming College) and the schools there have an extra reading week because they had one of the highest suicide rates in young adults in the country.

I'm at 4 classes/term this year in the double honours Multimedia + Cultural Studies & Critical Theory program.

I wouldn't call myself a role model. I'm more of an idiot for taking on too much financial responsibility in school.

i don't see the issue.
i feel i need a break in february. but right now we just had thanksgiving and christmas is on the horizon.
i would rather have it tough for a couple week than lose either a week of my summer or my christmas break.

It's impossible to lose a week of christmas break... we end on the 22nd and start on the 4th... I guess they could cut out 2 maybe 3 days max, but definitively not 1 week.

I agree though, I don't need a break in term 1 since we have thanksgiving (which is a break from most labs). I'd rather have a longer summer.

Because Mac students are too smart to be suicidal = only one reading week.

So, you know what you have to do to get two reading weeks...
