Why are there no tall buildings?

I've always assumed its because students would probably jump off tall buildings

Never been to Waterloo but damn Guelph is an ugly campus. I came here and went to Guelph for tours and it was a massive differences.

A benefit to having smaller buildings is that there are rules around how high the building is before you need operational elevators in case of fire, etc. Take Brandon Hall for example, even though some floors were perfectly fine, they couldn't let students in because it needed operational elevators.

There was a discussion about it here.

Buildings with over 5 floors need the elevators, hence why the new engineering building is only 5 floors I believe?
