Is it worth taking Physics 1LO3?
Hey everyone, i was just wondering if its worth taking Physics 1LO3, i did take 4U physics in highschool and got a decent mark... 86%. Im planning on taking Honours Biochemistry second year so i need to take 1BO3 anyways but was thinking of taking 1LO3 as a refresher, but is this even worth my time? The reviews say it is basically a repeat of 4U Physics, which could be nice as i would be taking it first term kind of easing my transition to university life. Thoughts?

Waste of money, just take 1B03 and something else.

Or you could do something like: Physics 1B03 first term, Physics 1BB3 (or 1BA3) second term.

Agreed. You're going to need Physics 1BB3 by the end of the second year if you enter biochem, so just get it out of the way. Physics 1B03 is sort of a refresher already. The things you learn you will already have seen before, but the questions they shove your way are way more challenging.

Yeah, if you're still fresh on High-school physics, go for 1B03. Just a word of advice - keep on top of the work required for it. This course can EASILY swing both ways, since each midterm and final exam is worth a lot per question. If you do well, you're in. If you mess up, busted. :/

Thats what im thinking, but the thing is for me highschool physics only went well for because we had a great teacher who was a pretty big fan of part marks and i dont want that to come back an bite me in the a** next year! I was thinking of taking 1LO3 first term and then 1BO3 second, and taking 1BB3 second year.

That's what happened to me.

i wouldn't really recommend taking 1L03, it was more of a grade 11 review, 1B03 was more grade 12 stuff... and then some new stuff toward the end. I wouldn't recommend taking 1BB3 second year, im in biochem and knew a couple of people who took it second year- and it was just a lot too handle, very time consuming and second year in H. Biochem itself is pretty time consuming and intense. I don't think 1B03 will be too bad if you don't take 1L03- as long as you stay on top of your work and manage your time well you'll be fine.

But then again- you know your work habits best, Im just going off my own experience. I took 1L03, and found it so unbearably useless that it ended up being one of my lower marks, just because i foudn it so boring. 1B03 actually went a lot better, because it was interesting content and the labs- although tedious and annoying, were very practical.

Thats exactly what i needed, thanks everyone, especially hamnah! So you would suggest taking 1BO3 first term and 1BB3 second?

Only 1B03 is required by the end of second year for biochem. 1BB3 isn't required at all.

I would definitely recommend against taking 1L03, though. Waste of time.

If you're interested in Modern Physics, then you're gonna like 1BB3. I don't know if you'll use Modern Physics in Life Sciences, unless you're doing radiation or something.

I don't think physics 1bb3 is required for biochemistry. (I'm in biochemistry).

I took physics 1bb3 just for fun though as I enjoyed physics.

Very good, so id be fine without it? And unrelated, how do you like the biochemistry program and any tips on getting in?
