In first year I was able to be notetaker for two classes. But usually you are only assigned to one class since a lot of people apply, and some classes are more popular that others.

Ya this sounds like a good idea, however if you plan on doing this, then what is the point of even having a laptop? A desktop would seem to do the job just as well.

3-4 classes a day, this will become a lot of work, and usually at night after a long day of classes you just want to sleep and relax, instead of copying out notes.

When were you planning fitting time in to read your textbooks? Usually you'll need to read 10-30 pages each night depending on the course.

indeed, expect at LEAST that amount per class (and often you need to do two sets of readings in a week too) for readings.

I'm now at the point where I have to read a couple hundred pages a week... I definately do not have time to recopy notes; I only do that for exams as otherwise I wouldn't be sleeping.

Currently Walmart has 80 pg Hilroy notebooks on sale for 0.27. Run, don't walk.

I just bought a bunch of notebooks with tear-out pages, and took notes in that, no matter the class. Then when I got back to my room I'd tear the notes out and put them into their respective categories in a larger binder that I had. Either that or I typed my notes (in classes where the prof talked extremely fast) and saved them in class-specific folders.

Seeing as you did both, I suppose you might be able to offer a comparison of each method. Which did you find more efficient?

With a laptop, searching for the notes becomes so easy. and typing is faster than writing.

for the Math or physics, there are programs which makes it so easy to write formulas or you can get one of these touchpads which will be like a paper but it will appear on your laptop as sketches.

Also if you do some mistakes while you taking notes, with laptops its so easy to edit but with papers, the paper will be messed up lol

One more thing, if you use papers, by the end of the year you will end up with about 2000 papers and papers are made of trees

Well, you can use iWork Pages. Its just a matter of dragging characters.
But this works with Mac OS only.

its called a tablet, or a tablet pc.
basically u write onto a screen, and the computer interprets your writing.
your notes will be your own handwriting, but just in the computer.

a tablet laptop is expensive, but if you buy an attachable tablet, it's cheaper.
and i think the program is OneNote, i'm not sure though.

Yup, the program is indeed called OneNote. Watch for an article about it very soon!
