Wrong textbook, Package Ripped
Hey everyone,
I was at Titles yesterday to buy a new textbook. I didn't really know what to look for so I asked one of the staff to help me out. She picked up the book list and showed me what books I needed. So I told her I wanted a Chemistry textbook. ANYWAY, she handed me the wrong book (she gave me a book by Chang, I needed the one by Petrucci). The worst thing is that when I was getting into the car, the packaging got caught on the door handle and ripped in two.

Is there ANYTHING I can do about returning it? I know Titles return policy states that it must be in it's original packaging, however I still have the packaging and the receipt, so would that make things okay? I haven't even touched the textbooks!

Thanks, Ryan

you should try going to titles, emphasizing the fact that the staff gave you the wrong book, and try to get a refund. not sure if they'll give it to you, but i think that is pretty much your only option.

Since they can't re-sell it as new, you might not have much luck, but it's worth a try. It's always a good idea to bring a list of the books you need with you, and to wait until after the first class before buying books, to ensure you buy the right books and only the ones you need (ie, not any optional books).

I don't know if by 'their' you're referring to the Titles employee or the student. The employee likely misunderstood what course the person was looking for, but it's the student's responsibility to know what books they need--there are even booklists available in Titles to consult. There are so many courses at Mac, you can't expect every Titles employee to know all of the books needed for all of the courses. Yes, the employee could have checked the booklist in Titles before giving the person the wrong book, but if he/she heard the wrong course code or something, then there wouldn't have been any need to check the list.

I just pictured that as justification for the dramatic course cuts we've been experiencing across universities lately.

It ripped in two :S. Ummm, the employee had the flippin' booklist in her hand when she gave me the book, which is what killed me. Ugh.

Yes, so she probably misunderstood the course you wanted. What exactly did you ask her?
It can't hurt to try bringing it back, the worst they can do is say no.

If you can't return it, post it in the marketplace.

when you go bring a copy of your timetable to show that you're registered in CHEM1A03 and not class with the book by Chang

Just a word of advice to everyone, don't buy books when school is still like 3 weeks away. Shit like this happens and no one likes dealing with it.
