York's strike has ended!
So I was just reading an article in the Toronto Star and it looks like the York strike is finally over. There were no negotiations at all so this whole strike was practically pointless. It is going to create a big mess for everyone, especially the students. The students will be returning to their regular classes on Monday. Furthermore, this has created a bad image for the university for highschool students that were planning to go there next year. I would rant more about the whole thing but I'm in MUSC and my laptop is about to die. Here's the link to the article: http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/578952

Agreed.
I feel so bad for the students. I hope they don't get screwed out of summer jobs - though they probably will :( |

Yeah, I have a lot of friends that go to York and they're all infuriated about the whole thing. They're not even receiving a compensation for what happened which I find is totally unfair. No student will be receiving any refund on tuition fees as well.

Are they only going to do one full term for 2008/09? If so, they sure as hell should be given back half their tuition.

I am not quite sure how they're planning to work out the year but York should be prepared to lose a lot of prospective students. From what I've heard, they are going to cancel summer courses as well. It really sucks how the students have to suffer because of this big mess.

Yep York honestly sucks, its not too suprising to see a 15% drop in application, odds are Rye and UT got those apps..not to mention now they have 13 days to complete term1...i dont kno where exams fit in those 13 days..and apparantly these ppl vow to strike in 2yrs..if u hit york, you're a dork!

The TAs wanted more money because they couldn't realize that a TA job isn't actually a full time job. |

the union was also pushing for a 2 year contract instead of the standard three, and wouldn't even accept any agreement with a three year contract, whether or not it was fair.
