Engineering Level II Cutoffs
I'm pissing myself because I heard the cutoff for E&B Eng was actually as high as a 9 or 10 one year? Is this true? I just need to know what mark I should be aiming for to be guaranteed a seat. Also, is this program usually harder to get into than Mechatronics?
Hopefully someone can dispel this rumour so I can stop urinating.

I would say aiming for a 9 or 10 would guarantee a spot in any of the fields. Also, I don't know about the difficulty, but I think Electrical and BioMed Engineering is a much better program then Mechatronics at McMaster. Also has really bright future I would say
Don't stress, and just think about acing your finals for now!

Its usually the highest, but it changes from year to year, like ANY OTHER STREAM.

Woah. I really doubt it's that high! I talked to Sally just last week about my chances of getting into elec & biomed, and she said that a score of +270 points (~7.3 with a full course load) would "gaurentee" myself a spot in the program.
Also, she says she hasn't been hearing a lot about elec&biomed this year, compared to last year. It's moreso mech/civil. So, she thinks those two streams will have the highest cut-offs this year.
I scheduled another appointment with her on monday, though. I'l be sure to ask her about it again, and I'll let you know!

A very huge thank you from my bladder. And me!
I'm actually not taking a full course load right now so would we just divide 270 by another number to get the equivalent?

Divide by the number of units you're taking.

Just shadow it if you don't get in (unlikely) using electrical or comp eng or something similar. Courses essentially have no prereqs and the classes are small for the things that are not common to all of ECE.

the cutoff is unknown so far for this year but it may not be that high but it may be close depending on who applies.

i believe the cutoff was around 6.5 last year for elec and biomed. I got in with an 8.5 so i can guarantee that number for last year but I also know it was supposedly super low last year (for every program) That said, if you are struggling in first year, biomed is not the program to go in to, although nor is any eng program really.
However it changes every single year. Aim for the highest mark possible and then just accept it if you cant get in. Also for biomed, elec second year is very very similar and the chem and bio can be taken as summer courses. It should be easy to follow the biomed stream in elec or transfer in if you do ok second year.

I know this is off topic but I put Electrical Engineering as my 1st choice. I don't know why I did that since I want to get into Engineering Physics. Is there any way to change my choice or do I have to make sure I don't get accepted into Electrical ?

contact an academic adviser immediately. It should not be a problem because electrical usually has a higher demand than eng phys. But the sooner you notify them the better.

if you have the cutoff mark for electrical yes you will get in. Talk to sally asap, she can change it. even if you wait, getting into eng phys afterwards isnt difficult if they are under capacity.

This is what the upper years of E&B told me when I was choosing my program. Turns out the actual cutoff for the year before mine was 5.9 according to the Eng I office.

What is the cut-off usually for Engineering Physics? Is it a popular program?

Usually is a 4.0, but it could easily change.
