2nd Degree and Graduate Admissions
Are second degrees just as valid as first degrees when applying to graduate studies programs?

For example, if my first degree is honors social psychology and my second degree is honors anthropology, which will only require 60 units, give or take, beyond my first degree, does my anthropology degree being a "second degree" and not a "first degree" pose a problem when it comes to meeting the "undergraduate degree in anthropology" portion of the admission requirements for an M.A in anthropology?

That was a mouthful, phew : )

I had the same issue. It appears that it is case-by-case, depending on each school. I'm working on my second degree (Geography), and I asked Guelph how they would look at it when I apply with one degree in Pol Sci and another in Geog. They said anyone with more than one undergraduate degree will be looked at specifically (as opposed to "Their average is [x], so they go in this pile"). I assume the rules arent exact for every school, so its best to email them and ask. Most reply within a day or so.

I found for me it was really weird when they were calculating my average.

Since I had six total years of an undergrad, it would seem logical that if they were looking at calculating my degree (and therefore the one I was completing at the time), they would only look at my last two years. But when they were calculating my cumulative they calculated all six years.

That was for all four schools I applied to last year. I'm not sure about the schools I applied to the previous year.

By the way, you have to get a counselor to do a degree audit for you, since MUGSI gets all confused when you're doing a second degree.
