2nd Year Biochem Specializations
I am applying to 2nd year programs but couldn't find too much on the differences between General biochem, and biochem with biomed specialization and biomed with biotech specialization. Could someone please explain the differences between the 3 programs and their pros/cons. Thanks a lot

In second year, there is no difference. The only difference is the name.

Look at the courses each stream has to take...that's really the best way to compare programs.

Take a look at the courses, you'll see they vary pretty heavily starting in third year:

Honours Biochemistry
Biotechnology Specialization
Biomedical Sciences Specialization

Biochemistry
Hello,

There is no difference in the courses you have to take during second year. In third year, Biomed students take Biochem 3C03 whereas biotech students take Biochem 4LL3. Also specialization students get a chance to do a research project in third if they wish. Visit this website for additional details: http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /calen...12/pg1469.html.

Like many have said, there is no difference is second year.
However, if you want to do coop, you need to either be in a specialization or apply into it.

Third year is really when you see the specializations come in, and students specializing would have to take more specific courses than the general core program. So you would get alot more electives in core biochem.
