Only took 2C06 with Pawluch last year out of that list, It was a pretty easy course load. The material wasn't particularly challenging or complicated, there was a simple essay for the first assignment(5 news reports and one page summaries of each); though the second term essay was pretty awkward(atleast for me)...It asked you to describe a time you were labelled deviant and write 10 pages on it. I had such a hard time doing that unlike most people.

Other then that a MCQ Mid Year & Final Exam, pretty easy if you have done the readings.

The main idea is to keep up with the readings and you should be good!

Has anyone taken Socio 2E06 with Professor Augie Fleras? If so, what are his tests and exam like? easy, difficult, etc. I am deciding between this course or Socio 2Q06 and was wondering which one is the easiest as I am taking either one of them as an elective. Thanks.

Here is my review of 2Q06. I'd say take anything with Joanisse, her lectures are kinda boring, but they're so straightforward.

I took 2P06 with Dr. McKerrow, the material can be dry, he loves to talk about research methods and theory, but the tutorials are really good. There are 20 mini assignments throughout the year that you complete in tutorial, and if you do it you get 1% to your mark. The tests can be very difficult, but if you study you should be fine. For the essay you can do any topic on the sociology of education, but there are some unique requirements. The course breakdown is very fair:
20% Tutorial
20% Essay
20% Essay
four tests each worth 10%

Hope that helps!

I won't sugarcoat 2Z03 for you. It is the single worst class you will ever take. The prof is intimidating, unapproachable (I write my tests with the CSD, and when he brought the tests for pick up it wasn't there, I asked him about it, he just stared at my blankly and told me it's not his problem). He can't explain anything, I left most classes scratching my head. There is an optional tutorial but I really really advise you to attend, they pretty much take all the garble he spews out and translates it into english.

In terms of the tests, there are two worth 45% each, which IMO is a very lazy way of grading as it doesn't allow room for improvement/development. Sometimes in class he'll provide examples to help clarify his points. One of the questions was "recall this example." Once again, that really is pointless in seeing if we understand the concepts or not. There is also a 10% article review, and as long as you do everything the TA wants you to do, you'll get the full 10%.

If you can take it in the summer with Dr. Young, I'd strongly suggest that. I had Dr. Young for theory and he is one of the best profs I've had.

ALso if you can get into an intro course with her, if she is teaching it, Joanisse will be a great prof for that course too.
