$45.5 Million for new Liberal Arts Building
Hey everyone,
In 2007 Red Wilson donated $10 million for the founding of a new liberal arts building. Today the provincial government announced it will be funding $45.5 million of this new building and students played a big role. Unlike other universities that sought funding, our students wrote in to the Provincial government regarding this building. This student support was what set this project apart from others because it was about what students wanted.
This new building will create space for 1,275 students on campus and 13,000 McMaster students are expected to make use of the building. Humanities and Social Science students will use the space predominantly but there will be opportunities to collaborate with students from other faculties.
If you want to read more the Sil already got a news story up about it. http://thesil.ca/blog/featured/provi...arts-building/

WWoowwww. How about we write to the provincial government to get funding to fix our god awful online infrastructure!
In all seriousness though, as a science student I can see that this will at least be good for increasing study space for others. I'm looking at you, all you Facebookers on the Mills library computers... GTFO

There would be plenty of space if they weren't adverse to underground parking.

Well, there is underground parking under the stadium. To answer the question of where it will go, the proposed site is where Wentworth house is right now. Currently the Phoenix is moving to the refectory once construction is completed, but there are number of student groups/services located in Wentworth house that will also need space on campus.

At least we HAVE LSB and lab space. My friend at Queens has online "virtual labs," what a garbage waste of time that would be..
There's scattered space/tables in some areas of ABB, and we do have Thode for the record <_<

Another big concern is the arts quad, (TSH/CNH/KTH) those buildings are in desperate need for renovations.

I think the arts quad is decent compared to LSB. There's one lab in LSB with a constant leak under the floor (Apparently it's been like that for a couple year) and the washroom door doesn't lock on the first floor (not to mention that there are only 2 washrooms on the first floor and I mean like 2 toilets Lol). I really think that no maintenance happens in that building which is a scary thought considering there are a few dangerous experiments being performed on the upper floors.
But when you look at how many students use each building, way more students use the arts quad.

I was immensely glad to hear about this; there is a heavy focus on Health Sci/Science and Engineering, and I feel that we deserve to give the Arts an equal if not higher priority, given McMaster's recent focus on more science and technological education. It's fantastic to hear that the university now has the funding to make those steps, especially when liberal arts educations (in general) can often be shortlisted as academic institutions worldwide budget for scientific research.
