I am scared I will be kicked out HELP PLEASE
Hi, I'm a first year social sciences student. I am on the verge of failing two courses at the end of first semester so I'm guessing my average will be less than a 3.0. Will I be put on probation or are they just going to kick me out right away? I've been searching online for help but I can't seem to get consistent info. I'm just really scared I'll be booted out before second semester. I kind of brought this upon myself by not working as hard as I should have so I know that I probably won't be able to get reinstated. Please let me know what's going to happen to me!

1. Relax
2. Weather or not your able to continue, is determined at the end of semester 2. So, no you wont be kicked out after your first semester. However if you are unable to get an average higher than a 3.0 after second semester the likelihood of you not being able to continue is high
3. Start studying, treat every assignment/test as if your life was contingent on receiving a good mark and formulate a reward system for yourself

i know people who failed two courses their first year and they were just put on academic probation.
accept your failure, learn from it, and move on
its not too late to turn around from your mistakes
thats what first year is all about - learning and adapting to a new lifestyle which includes studying ways
find a way that works for you and stick to it
just keep positive and you'll get there if you work hard enough

Put it this way: If you WANT to stay in, you'll stay in. If you WANT to continue the year like you have up until this point, staying in isn't what you want.

considering most courses in university have 40-60% exams. you can do horribly on the term work and make it up easily on the exams.

Exactly that. Calm down, stay positive and you still have 2 weeks till exams! And your average is determined at the end of term 2. So if they plan on putting you on academic probation and such, they still have to consider your term 2 marks. Long story, short: do well on your exams or at least enough so that you don't fail and learn from your mistakes this term to do better next term.
Good luck

Plan everything day-by-day and stick with it, no matter what. And, take things one day at a time.

I think the most important thing is to forget about the fact that you're doing bad. Everyone does bad their first year - big whoop. You shouldn't feel like a failure because you struggled - we're all human.

I think the best advice I could give you is when you study study how you want to study for next semester. Don't put so much pressure on your self otherwise you'll simply feel even more depressed and disappointed with you don't do as well as you wanted to. Make a schedule and stick to it. And set up a reward system. Study every 40 minutes with a 20 minute break. And if you've behaved all week - treat yourself to a movie on the weekend. Don't stress yourself out too much either because it'll just inhibit your performance during tests.

Be confident and you'll succeed!
