However, if you do connect to the internet you will want some sort of protection.

With the numbers of Apple users skyrocketing by the month the chances of someone out there creating malicious software that can affect your Mac also increases.

I personally use Norton for both Anti Virus and internet security and contrary to most reviews, have never had a problem with it. It is simple and very easy to use and will always warn you if you are going to a website that has been reported in the past for attacks.

In the end, it's still your choice, but I'd rather be safe then sorry.

Experience: 10 years of using Apple.
Ive always hated Norton. I find it to be a terrible Anti-virus program. The features are good but I always used to have problems with it.

You're not the first I've heard this from, but I have yet to experience any problems that others have.

Guess I'm just one of those lucky people!

Same, I haven't had any detection problems from Norton. But it's a resource hog. Run that on Vista and it's a highway to hell.

Vista is crap too.

Windows XP all the way !

Linux is good too but only for advanced users since it's user unfriendly, community doesn't like to help newbies .

you're on a decade old OS man. Either upgrade to 7 or switch to Linux Mint or Ubuntu.

It's actually easier to do simple stuff on linux like installing from a Package Manager (like synaptic).
You're wrong, the community loves helping newbs but they expect you to google a bit before asking
Linux is not user-unfriendly.

It has manuals for every command and with a little bit of googling you can also solve any problems you face (which you shall not if you're doing basic stuff). If you have a unique problem, post it on the forums and you most definitely will get help. I know because I had a very unique problem on Ubuntu 6.06 and got it figured out through help of others (that's when I was a noob in Ubuntu)

First, Xp is better than Windows 7, especially in Performance. I've ran high end games. Same ystem, different OS. I maxed out the tweaks for both OS, and tried it at default settings for both. XP had the advantage.

About secuirty ? I don't give a damn about Windows 7 secuirty. I know how to protect myself against most viruses and can connect to right connections, etc...

Linux i so un-friendly. Give me one example of complete computer newbie (i, had no experience witha computer in anyway )and started purely on linux. Linux isnot attractive to most OS users, which are people who like to have things done for them.
