It is entirely possible to be a 'professional' (if you mean obtaining your p.eng) through other routes than an ACEB certified eng. program. The minimum academic requirement is a three year engineering technology diploma from a college of applied arts and technology.
So basically if you want to do the computer tech'y stuff at college you will still be good.
However, it should be noted that you will have to take a significantly higher
number of exams to get your license, since accredited engineering grads only need 2 to become an engineer.
The other option, which is slightly longer, is to take the three year college. Then do the two year part-time b.tech at mac while you work. Then you will need to write approximately five exams vs. two.
Also, keep in mind that Athabasca University does not have accredited engineering programs... Check with Mac to see if they would honour any credits at all.
