O.O isn't that pretty far to walk?
The only way I know is to follow the 5C route by walking down Main St westbound and continuing along Wilson St. West, which is what Main becomes.

Well whatever you do don't use Google Maps for walking directions. It will tell you to walk on the highway.

Two options starting from the Power Centre:
1 - Take Golf Links west, turn right on McNiven, left on Rousseaux, right on Wilson and keep walking down the Ancaster Hill until you hit Main West. turn right and keep going until you reach Mac.
2 - Take Golf Links west, turn right on McNiven, right on Mohawk Road, follow Mohawk to Filman Road, left on Filman up to the pedestrian bridge across the 403 and then keep on the trail until you reach Chedoke Golf course. Follow Beddoe Drive to Studholme Rd to Aberdeen, then take Longwood to Main West and turn left on Main West towards Mac.

the thing that sucks about walking that route/ most routes from ancaster into hamilton is that the big hill- main st. west- doesn't have good sidewalks. there's a walking path, but the speed limit is 80+ so I would be too scared to walk it

The second option in my first reply is quite nice; once you get to Filman Road it's all trails through the conservation area and golf course up to Aberdeen- but it'll take a good 2+ hours.
You can also bike that way.

Really? You know there are walking directions and separate "by car" directions...? I tried this on another two destinations since Ancaster to Mac isn't really a good example, and I got two different routes for "walking" (no highway) vs. "by car" (involved highway).

That stretch between Ancaster and Hamilton on Main/Wilson is super long, so make sure you're up to that. Biking would be chill I guess.

Ancaster is such a broad area. But the key central route would be the stairs on Dundurn which meets at Garth and Beckett. It REALLY depends on what area of Ancaster you are coming from, but there are a bunch of good routes, most of which take quite a while walking but are quick biking.
Or... I could assume you are talking the actual ancaster (I call the whole upper hamilton ancaster for some reason)
in which case, go with Anamaria's suggestion.

Then your best bet is to take the bridge/chedoke route.

If you happen to be super adventurous though... there is another route ( http://bit.ly/c13Am4) which goes by Washboard Falls, Tiffany Falls, and Filma,n Falls (Or just Filmann falls depending on how you go about it). The key issue with this one is that it does go along private land. Note to others... this is an excellent route to get to Washboard Falls without climbing at Tiffany Falls. There is another route off of Bruce Trail. All much fun for the adventurous.
