Astronomy and Telescope
hey,

So i'm taking the astronomy course, and am in Physical Sciences I. I have a telescope, and enjoy taking it out and observing. I saw a reference to a "MacAstro" group on the physics site, and wonder if anyone knows about this.

if i brought my telescope, would there be a group of students who would go out and observe weekly or something like that? or should i just leave it at home?

thanks!

I don't know much about MacAstro and whether or not they observe regularly, so I can't really help you there. You may want to give the Undergrad Physics Society a shout and ask them (although I can't seem to find any contact info for them on the website at the moment).

I can tell you that given Mac's location in a large city, it's definitely not an ideal dark-sky observing site - the urban light pollution is very bad here. If you have access to a car, then much better locations can be found as little as 30 minutes away, but from around campus itself you'll only be able to see the big, bright objects. You may want to consider that when deciding whether or not to bring your 'scope, as well as storage options - I'm not sure how large yours is, but you're probably not going to have space in your rez room for like an 8" Dobsonian :p
