Average for residence guaranteed
Hi. I like to live on residence for my second year too.
I was wondering what the cumulative average for your first year needs to be in order to be guaranteed for residence. I heard its 10....but I did pretty bad on the first term..and afraid of not getting near that average.
Any idea?

I was hoping for more of an experience based answer..like "I didn't get that average but I still got into residence without any trouble." okay..i just want to hear someone saying that so i could feel better lol.
Also, are upper year students usually given what they chose for their first choice?

I didn't get a 10 in first year and I was still able to get in rez.
Yes, upper years usually get their first choice (as long as you apply on time)

you get guaranteed rez if you maintain a 5 and above. however, it doesn't mean you'll get the guaranteed rez of your choice. i wanted keyes in my second year and ended up with bates. the lottery is based on marks, so aim as high as possible to get your fav choice of rez.

From what I gather last year, it's not based more so on average and more on luck because I had a low average was number 14 on the lottery system. They do incorporate high marks after but at the start it's lottery based. And if you don't get the average required, you can write an appeal and they may still accept it and allowed you on the lottery.
You're only guaranteed residence if you have a 9.5 or above as Dean's Honours, otherwise you get placed on the lottery if you have over 5.0

Based on the link that was posted, everyone who applies is put into the lottery. Some people will get waitlisted and some people will be allocated rooms. If someone allocated a room gets below a 5 average, they lose their spot. If someone put on the waitlist gets above a 9.5, they are guaranteed to get a room.
So, to GUARANTEE residence, you need above a 9.5, however anything above a 5 makes you eligible for residence.
*Note that the averages are sessional, not cumulative.

That's not entirely correct, if a person gets below 5.0 and was previously guaranteed residence, they can write a letter of appeal explaining why they got below 5.0 and could be accepted if the explanation is good enough.

no.
To be guaranteed res you need a 9.5 avg.
Otherwise, you are entered into a lottery process for res.

At first everyone is placed in the lottery process because the final cumulative marks have not come in yet but once they do come in and a person received 9.5 or over, they are then given a spot and guaranteed res.

where are you getting this from?
according to the res admission webiste.
1st. all upper year students are entered into a draw for a place in res by lottery.
2nd. keep a 5 avg to keep your spot<--5 DOES not guantee you res.
3rd. if wait-listed and your avg is abv 9.5, you will get res.
SO 9.5=GUARANTEED RES
