B.A vs. Honours
I am currently enrolled in an Honours Program for History.. However I am considering switching my program to just a B.A..

My question is in the long run is it really that big of a deal whether or not you have your honours? I don't plan on going to grad school (neither now, nor in the future). I'm just curious if there's anything I should really know about just having a B.A and whether I'm better off to just complete my honours.

Thanks!

I think you have to first consider what you want to do. There are more options open to Honours as opposed to just a B.A. especially if you're planning on continuing with History as a career. If you aren't pursuing a History career, say, going for another field on top of your History major (like Teacher's college), then I don't think you need an Honours.

Although, when you are applying for a job, an Honours would definitely rank up the points as opposed to just a B.A., just because it shows you have more of an educational background than that of a general B.A.

Good luck with this!

I can only tell you what one of my professors said about this topic, which is that unless you plan on getting your masters, don't waste an extra year of your life getting an honours. I'm not following her advice, so...

What are your plans for when you're done? If you're planning on going to college after, then I'd only get the B.A.

Thanks! I am actually planning on going to college to get a diploma afterwards, so I was curious if it was necessary. But this really helps

Check for the program, but from what I've seen, you'll only need a B.A.
