Here I'll break it down 4 u:

If by best residence you mean which res parties the most... I'll have to go with Bates. It's got a big living room and you can have actual parties in there. All the good parties were in Bates last year. If your throwing a small get together for like 5-10 people then any res room can be okay for that. I was in Brandon last year and you can't party in there. You can prejuice then hit up a party off campus, quarters, london tap, hess etc... But don't go to res with the mentallity that music will be blasting, beers everywhere, and people just going buck wild at parties (unless your in bates and keyes perhaps)...

I still had a blast in Brandon... it was the biggest res, the most people, and definately one of the craziest res'. No matter where you get put in, make the most out of it and as for the partying: don't worry. Once you got some crunk in yo system, you can mash out anywhere.

I love how they call it "substance free". It makes it sound so sketch.

Each residence is unique, but it all comes down the people in the residences. Sure some of the newer residences have nicer rooms and mabye more eye candy but I've seen like all the residences they almost all have the same feel to them. Some do give you advantages.. like air conditioning and having your own bathroom... but who wants to clean their own bathroom? and air conditioning in residence sometimes isn't the best thing becuase they might enexpectadly swicth to heating and there is that smell from radiator sometimes. There are tons of advantages and disadvantages.

But if I had to say the best residence in terms of the the building I would have to say.... Hedden Hall, Les Prince, Woodstock, Keyes. If your on one of those... your pretty much set.

Again it really comes down to your floormates/roomates and the people who live around you. They can make or ruin your entire year.

But wherever you end up. I'm sure you will have a ton of fun!

So wait what do they actually do to say "this is a substance-free" building...seems like they don't really enforce it...

I believe it means you can't have any alcohol in the common rooms. You still still have them in your room.

Not sure what happens if you get caught... if you are of age the CA will probably just tell you to go back to your room.

there is a substance free floor in the building. When you sign up for rez you can choose it.
Brandon has 11 floors, 1 was substance free. That is, everyone on that floor chose to be in a substance (alcohol, weed and other drugs) free environment.

I've got to say the sweetest hookups are Brandon, McKay, Woodstock, and Whidden. Not because of the people - those change every year! Silly.

They all have underground tunnels to commons, the only food open on weekends.

Everyone else has to walk through the rain/snow and put on shoes! Bwahaha!

But if you are in Keyes or Bates, you can cook yourself a nice meal ^-^

Well, technically you can cook in any residence, but you don't have to share the kitchen with the entire floor.

Yeah. The themes aren't for the whole building; just a floor, or a part of the building (wing).

I repeat what has been said earlier - Aaaallll residences are awesome, for their own reasons. Underground tunnel to Commons is good for some of the North Quad residences, but West Quad is steps away from East-Meets-West Bistro, AKA the best food on weekdays, even if its only open limited hours, AND Bridges, AKA awesome vegetarian food.

I'm biased towards Wallingford and Matthews myself, but really, its MCMASTER that is awesome! =D
