Well, you have to keep in mind that only maybe 1000 of those 5000 students in each year are actually science students, and that there are a lot of second year science programs. When you keep in mind that you can choose between Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, PNB, Psychology, Physics, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Chemistry, Chemical Biology, etc. etc. (along with all the specializations), it's not too surprising that some programs are very small.
But chemistry is actually pretty small. It's probably pretty tight.
