Bike Locks
What's better for a bike lock - a combination one or a u-key lock umbrella

u locks are probably made of stronger materials, unless you have a kevlar like composite in the combination one

the difference also is you can lose the key and be screwed, or you can forget your combo and guess for hours

I'm more concerned about getting my bike stolen. I always hear these crazy stories and this will be my first time having a bike on campus.

U locks are the way to go. Even the best chain/ kevlar/ combo locks will be stolen.

I think the problem with stolen bikes is not the lock, but rather how people actually lock them. If you use a combination lock that is made up of very strong material, while at the same time you secure your front and rear wheels, you should be fine. The rear especially since once that's off one of the more expensive parts of the bike, the gears, can be taken. Also check to make sure your bike doesn't have a quick release on any of the wheels.

the best chain locks can be cut. Doesnt matter how you use them. I had a $50 kevlar lock. Was cut. Never seen a U lock cut though.

Chain locks can be pretty strong like the new york fahgettaboudit from kryptonite. Otherwise U-Locks are awesome, you don't have to worry about losing keys, I was given 5 when I bought mine. and You dont have to buy a huge one either as long as you can lock your rear wheel, inside the chain stay, seat stay, and seat tube (rear triangle, unless you have a full suspension bike) your fine. If your front wheel is QR, you can just use a cable lock to lock that in conjunction with the U-Lock.

My bike was once locked with a U-lock... and it was still somehow stolen.

But as long as you have a cheap bike, nobody's gonna steal it; even if you leave it unlocked sometimes.
