Bio labs no longer eow?
Hey guys,

I noticed that the bio labs (1M03 and 1A03) are no longer EOW on our timetable. The the master timetable isn't either.

Does anyone know why? The chem labs are still eow.

https://adweb.cis.mcmaster.ca /mtt/... =1M03&t=1&d=D (master timetable)

:S

hmm, i just checked my timetable and 1A03 still has the EOW label (because if it did not, i would have overlapping classes) 1M03 on first semester however does not have it anymore.

maybe it's temporary...

I'm sure it's just temporary. First year bio courses and chem courses always have labs EOW. They wouldn't change the outline that much for this year. They pretty much do the same labs every year. Don't worry about it. Everything will be explained in the first classes. Just remember labs don't start the first few weeks. In class they will let you know all the dates.

Only go to core classes during the first week. They will let you know when everything starts. From what I remember, labs don't start for one month for bio/chem. I can't remember when tutorials start, but not the first week.

So, by first week, do you mean the week after Welcome Week ends, or Sept 4 and 5?

It depends. Usually in those 2 days you'll have gone to most of your classes at least once, and that's when they'll let you know. The rule of thumb is, if you haven't been to the lecture for a class yet, don't go to its scheduled lab/tutorial. In literally the first lecture they'll let you know how all the lab/tutorial scheduling works and when it all starts. I'd disagree with Mitch about the timelines, though - in the big science courses they used to start much sooner than October, or else they wouldn't get them all in. Needless to say, don't start making other plans for those timeslots before you get the actual schedule.

Cippi is correct. When I was in first year, the due date for all the training labs including the WHMIS class was September 28. After that date, they began the real labs. It's been 3 years since then so I'm not sure what the exact date is for when the real labs begin, but it's not for a while.

Last year the labs and tutorials started only a couple weeks after the lectures started. Some even the next week (depending on the class). We didn't even have to have the WHMIS course done before we started our labs! We just had to have it finished either by the end of first term or by the end of the second term, I can't remember exactly when.

So there might not be any labs for the first few weeks? What about term 2? Will the labs start up immediately because we'll have the WHIMIS training?

They announced in class there will be 9 dry labs- every week, starting the week of September 15th.
