They're located either there, or the Tank (follow the fishes in toga salmon hall)

Books are about 1/3 the price if you buy on-line (international, or used books from students), however.

Like RyanC said above, try other avenues..before going to Titles.

You can check out MI's marketplace here:

Is Titles really strict on the return policy? I bought a single textbook from there that wasn't in any packaging and now want to return it. I know that they say books should be unopened but if there was no packaging to begin with, will they refuse to take the book back?

The cashier tells you when you buy the book whether it can be returned and what not... your best bet is to just bring it in and ask. Sometimes they put the little titles return date flyer in your book when you buy it if you're eligible to return (I think)

Yeah, should've asked when I bought the book. The cashier didn't say anything. :(

If you're going to try to refund it - try before september 17.

Oh yeah, that I know. My concern is that I won't even be able to refund it. I guess I'll see... Thanks though!

Well, I wouldn't say wasted.. Titles obliged to sell their books at decent prices compared to what they get them from the manufacturers; they have staff, operating expenses, and all sorts of stuff to pay for. If not for titles, then we'd all be buying on-line and waiting weeks to get our books, first years would be confused and screwed. But yeah, books really blow the budget.

staceygab says thanks to RyanC for this post.

Textbooks, unlike regular books, cost more when you buy in bulk, which is out of Titles' control and kind of screws them over. (Typically, general-interest books cost less when you buy in bulk)

Thanks RyanC. People tend to overlook the realities of operating expenses. The work involved with creating the Book List alone is incredible. As well The Bookstore is one of the only operations on Campus that is self sustaining. It does not rely on student tuition or fees. In fact we give back around $1.25 million a year to the University to help run other programs and services. (Money raised is generated from a variety of goods and services - a lesser percent comes from book sales)

Combine that with the number of charities we support and the number of student jobs we create and wasted becomes a bit of a harsh critique.

We do try to ask that students wait until your first class to buy textbooks to avoid situations where you are taking books back. It costs an average between $10 to $15 to have a book brought in and then have it sent back to the Publishers. While it happens that you may find you don't need a book because of a dropped course or some other reason keep in mind that the lower the operating costs of the bookstore the more funding we can provide for students.

Why do we need books in Titles and Tank anyway? There are so many ways to get books cheaper, online, amazon, ebay, craig's list, kijiji, used. Almost all the online resources can be bought on the website.
