Assuming you're a resident of Toronto, you should.
It's a pretty big deal because that's rather uncommon. On top of that, it occurred in a typically densely populated area of the city.
The Eatons Centre is a pretty popular destination, and as someone who goes there from time to time - news like this is concerning.

I'm not from Toronto, I'm from Hamilton. I just think we got more important things to worry about, things that happen more often and cause much more damage, than just some punk with a gun trying to prove something.

If you're referring to stuff like environmental damage or political problems, then ya I believe people should be worrying about those more - but it's only human nature to worry about what's a potential immediate threat (especially to your life).

We have many members who are students that travel back and forth from Toronto, have family in Toronto, etc. which is why this story was posted as being relevant. Similar to the VIA Rail Derailment, we post stories that are big headlines that could impact friends or family of our MacInsiders members.

Something doesn't have to directly/personally affect someone on this forum to be important.
There have been plenty of news items posted on these forums that don't impact friends or family of MI members. If you're not interested or don't care, then don't read the post or waste your time commenting. Plenty of other people do care and are interested, whether or not it affects them or they live near where it occurred.

Just because this doesn't happen often doesn't mean it's not important. Someone has died from it already, and others are in serious condition. I'd say it's pretty important that we know, especially since I have very close family living in Toronto that just so happened to be in the mall at that time.

I work in a building attached to the Eatons Centre, and I walk through Eatons every morning and every evening, and go to the food court frequently. This was a shock, and if it had happened on a weekday I would've been alot more rattled.
But its still just rediculous, and a 13 year boy is still in critical contidition.
