Bus Pass?!
So I heard mac students get a bus pass that allows free transportation, is that true?
What if I decided to travel from Hamilton to Toronto, will the pass work for that?

Correct, you will get a sticker by mail sometime in August and you just have to attach it to your student card.
You can only use it in Hamilton.

Technically, it's not free since only full-time students get it and students pay about $150 to get the pass for 8 months. The price will increase by about $12 next academic year to include the summer months so the pass will be valid for 12 months instead of 8. But the bus pass is unlimited and valid anywhere in Hamilton so it's a very sweet deal.

The payment for the bus pass you get from Mac is included in your tuition and it only works in Hamilton. It's not like a Presto card where you can use from city to city.
Starting this coming school year all undergraduate students will get their bus pass for 12 months instead of 8 months for $12 more. It's a pretty good deal considering there are some students choose to do summer school.

As everyone has said, the pass only works for Hamilton - it's an HSR bus pass, which is Hamilton's local transit. However, you can get on the HSR using your bus pass, ask for a transfer, and then transfer to a connecting Burlington bus without having to pay. So, if you wanted to get somewhere in Burlington, that can be helpful too.

can you opt out of paying $12 for the extra summer months?
I'm graduating this year and I won't need the bus pass from may-august!

No opting out available. The only reason we get the deal we do is if everyone is in.

No, I don't think you can opt it out. The extra $12 applies for everyone even if you're graduating...

Plenty of graduating students stay in Hamilton over the summer after they graduate, and even more returning undergrads are not in Hamilton for the summer.
Nobody can opt out of any portion of the bus pass.

Your caveat there, however, is that if your transfer expires before you board Burlington Transit back to Hamilton, then you'll need to pay their fare.

Yes, but it's still better than paying two ways
