Buyback questions
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew whether the quotes for titles buyback is based on current demand... for example, if I sell a book for a course that is not offered in the summer, will it be lower than if I sell the book in September/December when the course is offered? Or does it make no difference?

thanks

It all depends on demand both at McMaster and at the other universities in the 'network'. If it isn't on course in the spring/summer semesters and you don't think they'll bring out a new addition or change the required books for a course you're better off waiting for August when the course listings come out. You can keep an eye on the Titles website and they'll post the listing sometime in August. That's the list that the McMaster buyback demand is based on.

The price listed is in real time so if between checking the price and getting there to sell the book 100 people sell the exact same book the price you get will go down because there is less demand.

You can get up to 50% of the new price but unless there is high demand that is unlikely to happen. The best option is usually to check what price it is selling at used in the bookstore and then selling it privately to a student for slightly less. You'll get more money and the buyer will spend less, it's win-win.

Can I sell any textbook back or do they specifically buy back certain books at certain times?

There has to be demand. If a prof doesn't adopt the book for a course then they won't take it, likewise if you can convince the prof to approve an older addition there's still hope to sell it back. Titles won't sell anything except what the professors tell them to even down to specific edition numbers.

They won't buy it back unless they are using it for the summer. There may be slight exceptions but the women working their basically recited it as a ritual.

Haha, I'm getting $3 for one of my books.

Anyone want it? It's for Psych 3AC3
