Can I bring a mattress?
I've heard that it's suggested that I bring a mattress pad, but I don't want to have to go buy one. Can I bring a twin mattress later (not on move-in day)? Or am I not allowed to? Thanks!

You can, just make sure that you bring in the old mattress back.

Hmm, odd. People don't actually normally suggest bringing in a mattress. Usually they recommend one of those foam mattress toppers that are like under 15 bucks and really small so that it's not too hard on your back. Hit up Walmart to find one =)

I agree, a mattress pad isn't expensive and it's easier to carry around.

Some people are kind of worried about university mattresses.
To be honest, I don't blame them.

You have sheets and most have a foam mattress on top. In addition, a ton of residences have brand new mattresses. It's not that bad.

Gross. I understand where they're coming from. You just don't know what people do when there's no one looking. >.>

I'm pretty sure that you're not allowed to bring your own mattress. You can only bring one of those foam mattress top things. At least that's how it was 2 years ago when I was in res.

You are not allowed to bring in your own mattress.
The reason: in the past people would infest residences with lice, as they would unknowingly (or knowingly) bring it from home and it would spread.
Thus, mattresses aren't allowed.

I can see bedbugs being a big issue as well, and those are very expensive to treat.

Ew! Ok, thanks for the info! I guess I'll be heading to Walmart to get a mattress pad.

Hotel beds are just as bad... just don't worry about it; it's not that big of a deal.
