Can I buy books at Titles now?
Ok, so this may be dumb question, but if I go up to McMaster this weekend, will I be able to buy my textbooks? Or do I have to wait? I just want to make sure I don't waste an hour's drive!

Thanks

The booklist is already out... They're not going to use a completely different book. But I get that some people won't find the books useful, however I'm someone who loves reading the books just for fun. So I'm buying them. lol

I've heard people sometimes by the wrong custom courseware and it can't be returned. But can you buy the wrong one if it's the only one sold at Titles for your course?

Yea the booklist will most likely not change, unless the prof decides to make a last minute change (which is unlikely but could happen).

Titles will sell the right courseware. Buying wrong courseware is a mistake made on buyer's behalf (for example buying physics 1bb3 courseware instead of the required 1b03- the coursewares ( the lab manuals) look quite similar from their outside appearance, with the course codes being only slightly different and the wrong one could be bought by mistake, so just be careful about that). Mostly, the problem with buyng the custom courseware ahead of time is that people may later decide to drop the course and then the courseware cannot be returned.
Textbooks, however could be returned by a certain date if they are in perfect condition in their original packing (like brand new with no marks etc).

niteskie says thanks to saukalra for this post.

You can totally buy books at Titles now...but don't. Like, really...take it from me, just don't.

Last year, I got all excited and ran out and bought my books for all my classes ahead of time because I was an intense keener and dismissed all the warning about buying books ahead of time. A solid 5 books (at least $200 worth) I didn't use at all throughout the year.

Definitely wait till lecture or, to play it really safe, first tutorial/lab.

Unless you do just wanna read them...in which case, have fun!

Naw, you can't really pick up one that's completely wrong and buy it if you know your course code, but the problem comes when you go to change your class or find out that the prof doesn't use it...which happens...a lot.

last year for my media 1b03 class there was only one custom courseware listed on the titles site. everyone in my class bought that one, but it wasn't the right one. apparently the prof said we could get a refund, but we had to go through a lot of trouble to do it and i didn't bother.

To be honest, I've already bought and started reading my books. Just be careful when it comes to courseware because you can't get your money back. I have never had a prof say "oh this is the wrong book for the course" Nevertheless, you may end up dropping it for whatever reason. I know for a fact that I won't be dropping any of my courses because well-- I'm in fourth year so I know what to expect

yes you can. They are already there and ready to buy. They have a lot of used ones as well. Better get those before they run out.
