On July 1st, 1867 the British North America act was enacted, officially making Canada a country. There are lots of awesome events going on all across Canada to mark the 143rd anniversary of this event, so go out and celebrate!
The City of Hamilton is having a fireworks display in Bayfront Park, starting at dusk (approximately 10 pm). The fireworks will be launched from the Northwest point, so take that into account when finding a place to sit! There will be performers as well starting at 8pm so be sure to check them out! Food donations will also be accepted. More info is available here.
Also happening in Hamilton:
The City of Toronto is holding celebrations in Mel Lastman square starting at 5pm. The earlier activities are mainly intended for younger kids, but there will be a fundraising BBQ for KidSport at 6pm, and an opportunity to meet several gold medal winning Olympic athletes. There will also be magicians, jugglers, fire-breathers, urban dancers, live music performances and more! The evening continues with musical performances by 2010 Juno-award-winning Digging Roots and God Made Me Funky, capped off by a spectacular fireworks show. More info is available here.
And while you’re in Toronto, why not check out Pride Toronto? It will be running from June 25th to July 4th. The Dyke March Fundraising event will be going on at the Gladstone Ballroom at 9pm on Canada Day, and there are lots more events going on throughout the week.
Don’t worry about all the G20 destruction, the cleanup has already begun and all transit is running on schedule again. If you can’t make it to the Toronto or Hamilton celebrations, there’s most likely a celebration in your area as well!
