The special tuition freeze in Quebec for Quebec students is awesome, and being from Quebec I would have been able to recieve this special tuition. I seriously considered some Quebec schools and McGill was my first choice, however after looking at the numbers, coming to McMaster and living with family for first year was the most economical. I'm currently at only approximately $7000 in debt and have paid everything myself with no family help.

I can only read the first article right now but I find it interesting to think how Canadian born kids are less inclined to pursue a university degree than visible minority immigrants.
If I had to wonder about why, referring to my own experiences and my interaction with other immigrants, it's because several older immigrants, including people in their late forties, even some in their 60's, migrate here so that their children can get that prized Canadian university degree. In exchange, their children may feel obligated to get a degree even if they might find college suits their career goals better.

Perhaps Canadians don't automatically think of university as the first post secondary option because they know that college offers them a variety of paths as well. As well, they may be more accustomed to hearing about the massive debt that their university bound relatives, friends and family friends face and may be less attracted to the opportunity.
