Changing Programs?
Hello everyone,

I applied to McMaster Business and Social Sciences this year.
I did not get accepted to the business program but was accepted to Social Sciences.
I was wondering how hard it would be to switch into the business program if I chose to accept my Social Sciences offer? and how soon would I be able to do it?
I wasn't able to get an clear answer from the advisor..
Thanks in advance.

You should call the academic programs office of the DeGroote School of Business for a definite answer. The program changed so no one really knows the process anymore, for example there is now an addition of Accounting 1AA3 and Organizational Behaviour 1BA3, which you will have to cover if you need to switch over.

I don't recommend the risk, if you got into another business school then go with them.

Would you say switching from a business program at another university to Mac Business a better option?

If things have changed and no one really knows how the new process is going to work for transferring into bcom from within Mac, then it can't really be compared to any other option. For all we know, the process for switching from another university will also be changed.
As was mentioned earlier, you should contact the faculty to get a better answer.

The easier option would be to go back for a fifth year in high school, redo few courses that you didn't do well in so you can boost up your average.
That way you have a better understanding of the courses and would have saved a lot of money!

If you are against this idea you can go to another uni for business but keep in mind that first year is a new experience and there's no guarantee that you will get the required average to switch to mcmaster.
Best of luck!

Anyways, the biggest mistake any student can make is to go into a program like Social Science or Humanities and try to switch into business. Like I said above, you have a high risk of not getting into business. Beyond that, if you must go to university always pick business because if you don't get to transfer into business at Mac you can still be eligible to go into the business field. If you go to Mac for Econ, if you don't get into Business then you cannot get designations such as CPA for accounting and will be a bit tougher to get designations like CFA for finance.
