Cheap Furniture?
So I'm moving to a new apartment at the end of July, and I'm in need of a few things... where can I get cheap stuff? I know, Ikea, but even they can be pricey sometimes. And I don't have that much family in the greater Toronto/Hamilton area either. Any ideas?

Even try the Macinsiders marketplace.. there may be something on there.

I was able to furnish my entire room in my student house for $35. The living room was done with no expense! hahaha. In one day through driving around and collecting finds on the side of the road with my dad's pick-up, I was able to find everything I would need and it all even matched!! I also got a mini-fridge from someone who was graduating for $20. Also try to ask family. I got my cousins old bed and some of my parents old living room set.

There are usually two great times to do the driving around. One is in April when people move out and the other is the end of August/early September although you'd be surprised what you'll find at any point in time.

When you do this, make sure it isn't really sketchy stuff of course. Some things really should be tossed.

Places like Value Village and other thrift stores also sell cheap furniture. There's a big Value Village store on the Hamilton mountain.

You can also check local newspaper ads to see if people have furniture listed.

Think of it as a non-digital version of craig's list

Easy man don't take msg board comments so seriously! Yeah you have to be careful to a point, but it's not like you meet up with the person in their living room... you meet them at a busy intersection. I've bought something through craiglist and facebook marketplace (a sweet orange n62 + ocarina of time) and if you just send a few messages beforehand and talk to the person on the phone, you'll be alright.

Check learnlink, facebook, etc. The best time to buy things is when people are moving out and dumping their stuff. =p

yeah i know, im just playing lol.

but yeah, ive gone to peoples houses before buying stuff on kijiji and sometimes its sketch.

now i started meeting at a tim hortons, much safer, more people around, as long as its something like that...

but for furniture your most likely going to have to go to their house at some point in time if you want to see the item for yourself in person, if not, i guess you can go by pictures and maybe they will even deliver it to you.

sThanks for all the ideas guys. =D Yeah, I'm sort of wary of kijiji/craigslist, but I'll just ask my parents to come with me.

Does Value Village sell new things or is it used? I've never gone to one so >.>

I'm fairly certain that it's all used.
