Chemical Engineering...all first year engs hate it?
Why does nobody want to do chemical engineering for level 2?
I have met many many mech eng and civils, but barely any chem engs.

I don't understand. Is the chemical engineering program at Mac horrible or something? The course outlines look pretty good...

It's not that people hate Chem Eng, it's just that Civil and Mech (and ECE) are the most popular ones.

You shouldn't base such assumptions off things as simple as "the number of people I've met from x department" though, because no matter how popular you are, you only know a fraction of the entire population.

Also, all the girls go into Chem or Materials Eng. Just sayin'.

ECE is the biggest i think, with around 200 students.

Chem is also fairly large, I know a few friends in it.

It's the name. When people see the word "Chemical" they get scared. When they see the word "physics" they get terrorized by it.

Seriously, at least half of first years who go to mechanical have no idea what it's about in terms of what kind of technologies you work with.

The only one people are definitely sure of is Civil.

because 1st year engineers know that level I engineering chemistry is basically grade 11 and 12 chemistry with no upgrades

when they realize they haven't moved forward in 2 years...then comes the fear of real chemistry

Do you know what chemical engineering is about? I know someone who's in Chem Eng and he told me he only took 2 courses in chem during his entire fckin university career.

Yes, two courses under the "chemistry" department. Chem eng has its own courses. While they aren't in the chemistry department, it's still chemistry (applied chemistry)

Yeah, if you actually want to learn about chemistry, you should go into materials eng (so i'm told). I'm in 4th year chem/bio eng, and while we take 2-3 more chemistry courses, we mostly learn other stuff like heat transfer, mass transfer, separations, process control... If you're interested in chem eng or chem/bio, feel free to ask questions!

edit: i guess if you actually want chemistry, you should just go into chemistry
